The Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled today that same-sex and opposite-sex
couples must be given equal marriage rights under the state constitution. The
decision appears to make Massachusetts the first state where same-sex couples
can legally obtain a civil marriage license. The court gave the state 180 days
to change civil marriage statutes accordingly.
